Categories

Most re-watchable scene
  • The Franco-McBride porno magazine fight – 'I made jizz in your magazine.' Bill calls it 'one of the five most funny scenes in the last 30 years.'
  • Everyone dies at the party – Cera getting impaled, the sinkhole, trying to save Aziz.
  • Danny McBride making breakfast – 'I'm sure the Green Goblin can fucking afford some more bacon.'
  • The exorcism of Jonah Hill – sarcastic satanic Jonah.
  • Danny and the GIMP (Channing Tatum) reappearing.
What aged the best?
  • Danny McBride – Seth Rogen said he was the person who made everyone break character the most.
  • Jonah Hill talking to God: 'I'm Jonah Hill from 'Moneyball'.'
  • The devil having a giant dick.
  • The fan service – 'Superbad' reunion, 'Pineapple Express' 2 within the film.
Best needle drop
  • Gangnam Style (Psy) – 'so 2013.'
  • 'Paper Planes' (M.I.A.) for the 'Pineapple Express' 2 scene.
  • Cypress Hill for Danny McBride's entrance.
  • Backstreet Boys 'Everybody (Backstreet's Back)' for the ending.
Most cinematic shot

Danny McBride's entrance – him doing the bird hands. Unanimous winner.

Weak link of the movie
  • They had a plan for a post-credits scene in hell (Franco, McBride, and Jonah smoking marijuana with Hitler) and should have done it.
  • The party could have been 5-6 minutes longer.
What aged the worst?
  • James Franco – 'officially cancelled,' doesn't talk to Seth anymore, hasn't worked in years.
  • 3DTV references.
  • Emma Watson leaving the set due to improvised scenes – Rogen later apologized.
The hottest take award
  • Danny McBride is the funniest person in the last 15 years / funniest guy since Ferrell.
  • Chris Ryan: This is the best movie from this era. Better than 'Knocked Up', better than 'Superbad'. Because it's about friendship, not about growing up and affirming the nuclear family.
Casting what-ifs
  • Emma Watson's role was supposed to be Mila Kunis (scheduling conflict).
  • Daniel Radcliffe was asked and turned it down.
  • Original ending: heaven with Morgan Freeman as God – he said no, replaced by Backstreet Boys.
  • Cameron Diaz was supposed to be at the party but they moved filming to New Orleans.
Best "that guy"
  • David Krumholtz – 'the Lucas Haas of the Seth Rogen crew.' In 'Superbad', Numb3rs, The Santa Clause.
  • Brian Huskey – sticks his head through the door; from Veep.
Best "heat check" performance

Michael Cera – in it for about 4 minutes, slapping butts, doing coke. 'About as good of a heat check as we've had in any of these movies.'

Re-casting couch
  • Add Mila Kunis to the Emma Watson role.
  • If Franco needs to be digitally replaced: Jason Segel.
  • If made today: Tim Robinson, Pete Davidson as the Franco type.
Half-assed (internet) research
  • Budget $40 million, grossed $126 million domestic.
  • Michael Cera asked if he could actually slap Rihanna's butt; she said 'if I can hit you back' – she beat him up in multiple takes.
  • 85% improvised per Evan Goldberg.
  • They were shocked it wasn't rated NC-17 – the MPAA just said 'rated R.'
  • Franco did all the paintings himself.
  • Based on the short film 'Jay and Seth Versus the Apocalypse.'
Apex Mountain
  • Danny McBride – yes, last year of Eastbound and Down plus this movie.
  • Seth Rogen – yes, 'This Is the End' makes money, 'Neighbors' coming next.
  • Craig Robinson – around here (Hot Tub Time Machine, The Office, this).
  • Michael Cera – no, probably 'Superbad'.
  • James Franco – around here, maybe 127 Hours nomination.
Picking nits
  • Where in LA could Franco have that house but then walk 3 blocks to Melrose? The geography makes no sense.
  • There's no way Seth Rogen is picking anyone up from the airport in 2013.
  • Would they really be that scared of Emma Watson with the axe? There are 6 of them.
Sequel, prequel, prestige TV or untouchable?

Not untouchable, the prestige TV version would have been really good – but now it can't be touched, it's a time capsule.

Would this movie be better with...?

Jon Bernthal playing himself – 'You guys got some real fucking interesting guys up in here.'

Just one Oscar, who gets it?

Danny McBride – unanimous.

(Probably) unanswerable questions
  • Are you really supposed to take 6 shits a day?
  • What happened post-apocalypse to Asia, Jonah Hill's incontinent spaniel?
  • Does Jay Baruchel actually kind of suck?
What memorabilia would you want (or not want!) from the movie?
  • The crusty porno magazine from the Franco-McBride fight.
  • Michael Cera's yellow windbreaker.
  • The Gandalf pipe/bong.
Best (or worst!) life lessons from the movie

Be nice to your friends / be a genuinely good person.

Who won the movie?

Danny McBride – unanimous. 'He wins every moment he's in the movie.' The funniest person in an entire generation of funny people.
