Notes
- $40 million budget, made $132 million domestically. One of seven movies in 1992 to cross $100 million.
- Tom Hanks came to Penny Marshall wanting to be in the movie because he had some movies that didn't do well (Bonfire of the Vanities, Joe Versus the Volcano). He put on 30 pounds eating at a nearby Dairy Queen.
- Debra Winger was originally cast as Dottie but left because Madonna was cast, thinking it would be an 'Elvis Presley musical.'
- Demi Moore was originally in line for a part but was pregnant. Penny Marshall: 'Bruce Willis literally screwed her out of the part.'
- Christopher Walken was the original choice for Walter Harvey but they couldn't afford him. Garry Marshall was cast at the last minute.
- Madonna had to be moved from third base to the outfield because she couldn't figure out ground balls.
- Lori Petty actually hit the home run and ran the bases three times, puking the last time.
- The peeing scene was actually Penny Marshall with a hose in a bucket, not Tom Hanks. The scene lasts 53 seconds.
- There was a deleted scene of Dottie and Jimmy kissing that would have changed her motivation. The real women players were upset by it.
- Jimmy Dugan is loosely based on Jimmie Foxx and Hack Wilson. Both first basemen, both drinkers. Foxx was actually a manager in the AAGPBL.
- Tom Hanks told Bill Simmons on his podcast that this was his favorite movie he'd made.
- Marisa Tomei filmed an audition tape but Penny Marshall didn't think she was a good enough player.
- A failed TV series was made in 1993 with some cast reprising their roles. Only five of six episodes aired.

- Geena Davis and Lori Petty as completely believable baseball players.
- Rosie O'Donnell – peak likability, apparently the best baseball player in the cast.
- All the Jimmy Dugan-isms: 'Avoid the clap,' the waitress in South Bend.
- The quality of the baseball play across the board – shockingly high and convincing.
- Bill: Kit kind of sucks – Bill's daughter Zoe said 'she's not a good character.' Both agree Kit is super annoying and never earns redemption.
- Bill: As time passes, the Madonna cultural impact erodes – his daughter didn't know anything about Madonna.
- Old Dottie (the older actress) – 'not quite bringing it, pretty TV movie-ish'.
- Mallory: Marla Hooch quitting the team after marrying Nelson – 'all-time what aged the worst'.
- Debra Winger was originally cast as Dottie but left because Madonna was cast – big L for Debra Winger.
- Demi Moore was pregnant. Christopher Walken couldn't be afforded for Walter Harvey.
- Marisa Tomei filmed an audition tape but wasn't considered a good enough player.
- Madonna's 'tell old Mr. Rich chocolate man that he ain't closing me down' line.

- Bill: The guy who played Squiggy on Laverne & Shirley as the baseball announcer.
Bill: 1992 Sandra Bullock as Kit – would add likability. Mallory pushes back: 'you can't not root for Sandra Bullock'.
- The cast was all banged up: Rosie had broken fingers, Lori Petty had a broken foot for half the shoot.
- Tryout scene at Wrigley Field, home games at League Stadium in Huntingburg, Indiana, championship in Evansville.
- Madonna contributed 'This Used to Be My Playground' but it wasn't on the soundtrack due to contractual reasons.
- The peeing scene was Penny Marshall with a hose in a bucket.
- There was a stunt double for Geena Davis's split catch.
- Six cast members rented a house; Francis Ford Coppola sent cases of his wine.
- Geena Davis – Thelma & Louise then this. 'Apex literally, maybe of beauty, humanity, acting – pick a noun.'

- Lori Petty – 'until the day I die, I'll be Kit.' Definitely apex mountain.
- Women's baseball/sports movies – yes.
- Baseball movies – yes.
- Long movie pee scenes – either this or Austin Powers in the finals.
- Bill: No smoking anywhere despite being set in 1945 when everyone smoked.
- Bill: Kit gets traded before the playoffs – what kind of league allows that?
- Bill: In Game 7, first base open – and they DON'T intentionally walk Dottie, the best player in the league?!
- Mallory: Kit's pitch count across the World Series must have been insane.
- Mallory: Why is Dottie hitting fifth in the clinching World Series game?
- Did Dottie drop the ball on purpose? Geena Davis: 'I know the answer and I am not going to answer that question.' Both Bill and Mallory think she got trucked by her sister.
- Mallory: What did Mae say to the priest in the confessional? (The priest dropped the Bible twice and came out sweating.)
Amazon was making a new version (Abbi Jacobson co-creating and starring). Mallory is excited; Bill is cautiously open since it's been 30 years.
- Bill: The ball that Dottie drops at the end – 'like the Bill Buckner ball'.
- The catcher's mitt signed by Tom Hanks with 'Avoid the clap. Jimmy Dugan.'
Both agree: Geena Davis. Thelma & Louise back-to-back with this – two of the most important mainstream pop culture movies of the decade from a female empowerment standpoint.
- Craig Horlbeck had not seen the movie before. He 'fucking loved it' – 'It's perfect.'
- Craig: 'I had no idea this was a true story. I didn't know the AAGPBL was real.'
- Craig: This is his favorite Tom Hanks character ever.
