Rewatchables Reference

• Andrew's pick: Bogey Lowenstein's party – specifically Julia Stiles dancing on the table to 'Hypnotize.' She hits her head on the light fixture, which works as a great finale.
• Amanda's pick: Heath Ledger singing 'Can't Take My Eyes Off of You' on the stadium steps. He's literally strutting, bouncing down those steps with incredible energy. 'If you say Heath Ledger, this is the first thing I see.'
• Juliet's pick: Kat's poem at the end – 'I hate the way you talk to me and the way you cut your hair... but mostly I hate the way I don't hate you. Not even close, not even a little bit, not even at all.'

• Larisa Oleynik wanted to play Kat, and Julia Stiles wanted to play Bianca. A brilliant casting director said 'No, ladies, you will play these parts instead.'
• Ashton Kutcher and Josh Hartnett both wanted the role of Patrick Verona. Kutcher would have been a problem; Hartnett could have done it – he's dark enough.

• Kat's wokeness was ahead of its time – slamming Hemingway, railing against the male-dominated literary canon. 'I guess in this society being male and an asshole makes you worthy of our time.'
• Bianca's wardrobe – white jeans, crop tops – has come full circle back into fashion.
• 'I like my Skechers, but I love my Prada backpack' – both hilarious and prescient of fashion cycles.

• Some of the soundtrack – the Barenaked Ladies remix of 'One Week,' the unironic Smash Mouth cue, and deep cuts like 'Dabs by Brick.'
• Flashing a teacher to get someone out of detention would be received very differently in the current environment.
• The school's disciplinary policies in general – Bianca shoots a teacher with an arrow, someone fires golf balls into a crowd, nothing happens.
• Julia Stiles' outfits – the platform flip-flops in particular.

Andrew Keegan – 'Fresh tonight, pussycat?' He's a prick in all the right ways. The modeling photos scene at the party is amazing. Called someone a 'cheese dick,' which is a great '90s bully term.

• Andrew Keegan – yes, both heat check and apex mountain. Burned hot and fast. Nothing even close to as good in his filmography.
• Julia Stiles – debate between this and Save the Last Dance. The hosts lean toward 10 Things. She's also good in State and Main and on Dexter.

• Andrew Keegan didn't know how to draw a penis. Director had to show him how.
• The school is a real high school in Tacoma, Washington – Stadium High School. It looks like Hogwarts.
• The entire movie was filmed on location.
• The poem scene took only one take; the tears were natural and improvised.
• This is part of the teen Shakespeare trend: started with Romeo + Juliet, peaked here, cratered with the Othello adaptation 'O.'

• The resolution is bullshit – she finds a guitar in her car and everything is forgiven. A betrayal of the character. She would at least make him sweat it out for a few more days.
• How are these high school kids getting into bars on weeknights?
• How old is Patrick Verona? You could tell me he's 19 or 36.
• The dance scene doesn't resolve things the way prom scenes usually do (unlike Pretty in Pink). They rush the resolution.
• The dad's new rule – Bianca can date if Kat dates – creates unnecessary conflict between the sisters. Bad parenting.

Heath Ledger – unanimously. Andrew Keegan as runner-up. 'I'm so glad we have a consensus on the supremacy of both Andrew Keegan and Heath Ledger.'
