Horror legend who was there for three stages of the genre: 'Hills Have Eyes' and 'Last House on the Left' in the '70s, created Freddy Krueger with 'Nightmare on Elm Street' in the '80s, then reinvented the genre with 'Scream' in the '90s. A sweet, professorial guy who got typecast as a horror director. Used the leverage from 'Scream' to make 'Music of the Heart' with Meryl Streep.
