Roland Emmerich
German director who directed 'Independence Day' (1996), the second highest-grossing movie at the time. Co-wrote the script with Dean Devlin. Also directed 'Stargate', 'The Day After Tomorrow', '2012', and 'Godzilla' (1998). The idea for ID4 came while promoting 'Stargate' when a reporter asked about aliens.
