Legendary director who directed 'Working Girl' (1988), 'The Graduate' (1967), 'Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?' (1966), 'Silkwood', 'Heartburn', and 'Angels in America'. Ebert said 'Working Girl' was 'Nichols returning to the top of his form.' Insisted on casting Melanie Griffith, threatening to quit if they didn't. Was so angry at her substance issues during filming that he made her pay for the lost day's shoot.
